Hike, pause, repeat? What to expect from the Fed | Ausbiz

Isaac Poole from Oreana Financial Services shares his views on the impact of the Federal Reserve’s rate hikes, the possibility of a pause, and the overall state of the US economy.

He says that the rate hikes have already slowed the economy and that a pause might be a reasonable decision to evaluate the effect. However, Isaac says there is a significant challenge faced by the Federal Reserve, as pausing could risk losing their option to hike again, potentially jeopardizing their credibility.

He also examines the US debt ceiling, considering it a sideshow with the potential for short-term volatility but ultimately expects an agreement to prevent default.

Isaac also discusses the current state of US-China relations, stressing the significance of progressing constructively on trade and politics. For an overall strategy, he recommends focusing on the short to belly of the yield curve, particularly on two- to five-year bonds, as they offer downside protection and are less affected by the debt ceiling discussion.
